Backup or Export Database Before Move Server

Published by msaufong at 6:45 am under Hosting,Webmaster

I missed the most important step when I wrote the simple step to move server. What a forgetful me. WARNING! Backup the database before move your server, I strongly suggest you back up all the file in server too.

Here is the step on how to backup or export database using phpMyAdmin. You could log in to your phpMyAdmin through the control panel -> MySQL Account Maintenance. You would get the link at the bottom of page.

After log in to the phpMyAdmin, select the database you want to export/backup at the left hand side.

Then click on the Export Tab. Select all the wp_, marked the SQL and Add Drop Table.

Click “save as” and set your file name to save the database.

You should know what to do next without my explanation, right?

Next post will be how to import the database to new server. This is extremely easy if you already know how to export database.

I learned my lesson about backing up information before moving it, when i tried to move my WordPress from a shared server to a dedicated server and did not export it before moving it then my whole blog was gone forever so I always export before I try to move any data from one server to another.

Thanks for this tutorial. I’ve done this in the past, however this is a good refresher, and good for those that haven’t done it before. We should all be making backups, even if we aren’t moving servers. Just in case our hosting companies servers were to crash.

That is nice msaufong, you forget and you mark the correction. Only God is perfect, it is very important to backup the database before moving it.
